Your Guide to Litter Pans and Liners
Bet you never thought you'd have choices when it came to something like litter
pans and liners! Well, you do! Here's a quick summary of the different types of
litter pans to choose from:
Basic Cat Pan
This style of pan is for cat owners who are looking for a bargain. It does not
have a rim or a hood, just a basic box, and you'll need a scoop. Because these
pans are so affordable, people use them for other things such as drip pans,
Barbie pools, and whelping boxes for Chihuahuas.
Basic Cat Pan with Rim
This is the same as the basic pan, but is has a rim that snaps around the edge.
This reduces the tracking of litter outside of the box that cats are so known
for. The rim also keeps litter pan liners in place and aids in moving the pan.
Hooded Cat Pans
The basic pan, but with a hood. The benefit to your cat is that the hood gives
your cat their much needed privacy when using the restroom! The benefit to you
is that it hides the waste and helps contain odors.
Lift n' Sift Pans
The same as the basic cat pan, but this has a built-in sifter to assist in
cleaning up after your cat. This style eliminates the need for a scoop.
Automated Cat Pans
The newest type of cat pan on the market is the automated cat litter pan. These
pans use technology to automatically clean up kitty's mess by utilizing an arm
that has a sweeping motion that moves the waste into a waste compartment. This
style eliminates the need for a scoop.
Liners
Liners aid in cleanup of the litter box. Instead of pouring litter directly into
the pan, line the pan with a plastic liner, then when you clean the litter box,
simply lift the liner out and dispose of it, litter and all! Liners also keep
urine from permeating the plastic, which means the litter pan has a longer life
without odor.
